Burna Boy Magazine
Burna Boy Magazine
The Burna Boy Magazine is a self-initiated fanzine project created in 2024 as one of my early explorations into editorial design. Developed as part of a creative experimental study, the project focuses on translating Burna Boy’s bold identity and cultural influence into a visual narrative. Through this work, I aimed to explore how music, personality, and visual storytelling can merge within a print format, creating a publication that feels both expressive and immersive.
The Hello Phone project was my first exploration into 3D design, focused on creating an advertisement within a fully built digital environment. Starting with an existing Hello Kitty phone, I transformed a familiar object into something unexpected and character-like through animation and storytelling. This project became a key learning curve, where I developed foundational skills in modelling, rigging, lighting, and camera work.

The fanzine itself is built around a strong visual language driven by contrast, typography, and composition. I experimented with bold red tones, layered imagery, and dynamic layouts to reflect the intensity and presence associated with Burna Boy’s persona. The design balances structured editorial elements with more chaotic, expressive moments, allowing the magazine to feel alive and visually engaging. This project helped me develop an understanding of pacing, hierarchy, and how to guide a reader through a visually driven publication.

As an extension of the magazine, I created a promotional poster that translates the editorial concept into a standalone visual piece. The poster maintains the same graphic identity while adapting it for a more immediate and impactful format, suitable for advertising and public display. This allowed me to explore how a publication can expand beyond print into promotional design, ensuring consistency while adjusting for scale, clarity, and audience engagement.
